Lucy Montgomery-Hunter: “That one conversation with my teacher completely changed my career path ideas.”

Former student, Lucy Montgomery-Hunter, was inspired to become a teacher whilst studying her A Levels at Christ the King Sixth Form.

She recently spoke to our Alumni Team to share her experiences with her fellow alumni, including her continuing education and her fondest memories of Christ the King.

Lucy studied A Levels in History, Economics, Chemistry and Biology during her time at Christ the King. It was in her Economics class that the seeds were sown for her future career ambitions.

“I first thought of going into teaching because of my Economics teacher, Mr Hannaford,” said Lucy. “He’d set us an assignment where we had to teach the class and afterwards took me to the side to ask if I had ever seriously considered going into teaching. That one conversation completely changed my career path ideas.”

After graduating from Christ the King, Lucy began her History PGCE, as well as gaining vital work experience for her chosen career path alongside her studies.

“I’m currently working for Explore Learning, which provides extra support outside of school in English and Maths for children ages 4-14,” she said.

Once she finishes her PGCE, Lucy’s teaching plans are also inspired by her A Levels.

“Once I’m a fully qualified teacher, my aim is to teach History,” said Lucy. “In 5 years time I see myself settling into my own school, hopefully teaching A Level History and influencing the next generation. I see myself inspiring a love of history in their minds.”

Lucy finally shared some of her fondest memories of her time at Christ the King:

“My best thing about my time at college was probably the friends I made, they are a great addition to my life and I’m still in touch with most of them today.”
