Jonathan Phillips-Swaray: A level student is studying to be a Therapist at university

Jonathan studied his A levels in Psychology, Biology, Sociology and Chemistry at Christ the King Sixth Form College. He has now moved on to university to read Psychology.

Here’s what he had to say to our Alumni Team about life at university and his plans for further study.

Jonathan is currently studying his BSc (Hons) in Psychology at Buckinghamshire New University. He is settling into university life well, but admits that the change in workload has taken some getting used to.

“My greatest challenge has been keeping up with all my assignments at once and making sure to submit them all on time,” he said.

Luckily, the skills and support he received at CTK has enabled him to adapt well.

“The practical skills I gained from my teachers at CTK have helped me more than anything during university,” said Jonathan. “They taught me how to cope with the stress and workload and it has been really helpful to know what I know now.”

We asked Jonathan if he had any advice for his fellow CTK students who are currently applying for university.

“My advice to others would be to not underestimate university but don’t overestimate it either. The fact that you’ve made it in shows you are capable. I didn’t have the best grades leaving college but I knew where I wanted to be and it’s that knowing where you want to be that propels you forward.”

So, what’s next for Jonathan?

“I plan to further my education even more with a Masters and a Doctorate. Then I will work in my field of study as a therapist.

“In five years I see myself working my way up the ranks and beginning to become a reliable means of helping others through my job.”

Thanks to his determination to succeed, Jonathan is well on his way to achieving his ambitions of becoming a Therapist. Thanks for taking the time to speak to us!
