Doyin Sanyaolu: Former student sets her sights on the world of investment banking

Doyin graduated from CTK with A Levels in Economics, English Literature and Maths. She has turned her talent for numbers to studying a BSc in Economics at the University of Surrey.

Here’s what our ambitious alumnus had to say about her time at CTK, university and beyond.

“CTK helped me get where I am today because my teachers always pushed me to not just submit work, but to submit my best attempt,” Doyin told our Alumni Team. “I learnt to juggle many activities at College, such as the responsibility I took on in bible study, and also helping with the celebration assemblies and tutoring other students in economics. It meant that when I started at the University of Surrey I was already able to balance my studies with the pressures of other things.”

University life

Since starting university, Doyin has had to deal with the changes and challenges which come with leaving home and starting a new, independent life.

“I have learnt so much about myself from the independent lifestyle that university imposes,” she said. “Also, I have made a lot of friends for life!

“It has been challenging learning to be more assertive as my mum isn’t there to fight my corner or to yell at people who try to rip me off.” It sounds like Doyin is doing brilliantly, however.

We also spoke to her about her plans after university. “I plan to secure a graduate job and do my Master’s part-time,” she said. “Eventually, I see myself working in credit sales at an investment bank.”

She finally gave us her parting words of wisdom for her fellow CTK students: “Don’t underestimate the value of revising throughout the year, not just during exams. Also, get involved at university – it is an experience not to miss!”
