Students to undertake internships as part of education partnership

Christ the King Sixth Form College’s partnership with global investment firm Janus Capital is proving invaluable to 12 students this summer.

The educational partnership, called the Community Engagement Programme, has already been hugely successful since launching last year and now 12 Christ the King students are undertaking summer internships with the American company.

The internships with such a large, international organisation are sure to be incredibly helpful to the 12 students, giving them real-world work experience and possibly kick-starting their career.

Experience is vital for young people at the very beginning of their careers these days, with work placements and internships providing the best possible start for our students.

These internships and placements – either through partnerships like the Community Engagement Programme or from successful Christ the King alumni – are incredibly important to our current students.

Yet it’s not just the students who benefit. As Nigel Austin, COO of Janus Capital points out, investing time and resources in providing an internship is the same as any other investment – the rewards benefit both parties.

“At Janus, our investment approach is driven by undertaking research from the grass roots and this will be mirrored in the way that we work with the students,” he said.

The Community Engagement Programme is the first of its kind in the UK for Janus, who’ve successfully launched similar partnerships in the United States.

The internships are the latest in a string of opportunities the partnership has provided to passionate and hard-working students. The first was a series of simulation workshops ran by Janus staff from a range of departments, including marketing, human resources and investment.

Austin added: “We believe by helping [students] to identify their key skill sets and career opportunities at this level will further enhance them for the next steps in their education and careers.”
